Il codice, acquistato dalla British Library nel 1938 in Grecia o in Turchia, trasmette un Formulario di preghiere quotidiane portato in Oriente probabilmente da un profugo siciliano a seguito dell’espulsione degli ebrei dall’isola nel 1492 (cf. Sermoneta 1994, XXXI-XXXII). È disponibile una descrizione materiale del manufatto a cura di Sermoneta (1994, XXXIII-XXXIX). La scrittura del codice è alternata tra caratteri quadrati e semicorsivi, riconducibili all’Italia meridionale; si rilevano almeno tre differenti mani, collocabili tra i secc. XIV-XVI.

Il contenuto è piuttosto eterogeneo, raggruppando almeno due fonti liturgiche diverse adattate in vario modo dai differenti scribi e generando, perciò, numerose incongruenze e ripetizioni nella struttura del Formulario. La sezione che contiene gli Alfabetin giudeo-siciliani è ad opera della ‘mano 2’ (così definita da Sermoneta), responsabile dei ff. 138r-214v e di varie rubriche esplicative in giudeo-siciliano non ancora edite.

The manuscript, acquired by the British Library in 1938 in either Greece or Turkey, transmits a liturgical formularium of daily prayers that was brought to the Near East, probably by a Sicilian refugee following the expulsion of the Jews from the island in 1492 (cf. Sermoneta 1994, XXXI–XXXII). A material description of the artifact is available in Sermoneta (1994, XXXIII–XXXIX). The codex’s script alternates between square and semi-cursive characters, attributable to Southern Italy; at least three distinct scribal hands are evident, which can be dated to the 14th-16th centuries.

The content is rather heterogeneous, compiling at least two different liturgical sources that were adapted in various ways by different scribes, thereby generating numerous inconsistencies and repetitions in the structure of the formularium. The section containing the Judeo-Sicilian Alfabetin is the work of “Hand 2” (as defined by Sermoneta), who is responsible for folios 138r-214v as well as various explanatory rubrics in Judeo-Sicilian that have not yet been published.
