Codice miscellaneo, compilato prob. attorno alla prima metà del Cinquecento da tre diversi scriventi: il primo è responsabile di un manuale di carpenteria navale in lingua greca (ff. 1r-26r) e di una sua riduzione in un veneziano notato in caratteri greci (ff. 26r-37v), il secondo ha steso il prologo di un manuale di artiglieria navale in greco (ff. 38v-40r), mentre il terzo è intervenuto per completarne la copia (ff. 40r-44v). In calce al secondo manuale, una mano ulteriore, forse di poco più tarda, ha riportato una breve selezione di versi dalle Epistole 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12 e 16 di Orazio destinati all’edificazione del lettore. Non si conosce l’identità di alcuno degli scriventi, meno che del primo, Nikolaos Skouras, il cui nome è riportato nell’explicit in greco alla carta 37v. Incerta è anche la provenienza geografica del manoscritto: Morgan (1954) lo localizza nell’area dell’Eptaneso, stante la presenza, nei due manuali che il testo allografico inframezza nel codice, di un alto numero di italianismi e di qualche caso di innalzamento di /o/ finale in /u/. Baglioni (2023) osserva, però, che i due tratti, ricorrendo in molteplici varietà dialettali isolane, non sono dirimenti. In questo senso, se fosse possibile accertare la coincidenza del nostro Nikolaos Skouras con il copista omonimo attivo a Creta attorno agli anni Sessanta del Quattrocento, si dovrebbe retrodatare il manoscritto di qualche decennio e lo si potrebbe ubicare su quest’isola.

The manuscript is a collection of texts, most likely put together in the first half of the 16th century by three different scribes: the first copied a manual on naval carpentry in Greek (ff. 1r-26r), as well as its Venetian abridged version, transcribed in Greek characters (ff. 26r-37v); the second penned the introduction to a manual on naval artillery in Greek (ff. 38v-40r), which was completed by a third scribe (ff. 40r-44v). At the end of the second manual, another scribe, possibly at a later time, transcribed a brief selection of verses from Horace’s Epistles 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, and 16 for the reader’s enlightenment. The identity of any of the scribes is unknown, except for the first, Nikolaos Skouras, whose signature can be found in the Greek explicit on folio 37v. The geographical origin of the manuscript is also uncertain: Morgan (1954) locates it in the Ionian Islands area, given the presence, in the two Greek manuals, of a consistent number of Italianisms and of some instances of final /o/ raising to /u/. However, Baglioni (2023) notes that these two features are not conclusive, because they occur in multiple varieties of island dialects. In this sense, if it were possible to confirm that Nikolaos Skouras was the copyist active in Crete around the 1460s, the manuscript would have to be backdated by a few decades and could be located on this island.
